This weekend, the Museum of the Moving Image is presenting the first theatrical screening in New York in more than 40 years of PORGY AND BESS, shown in the world's only existing 35mm Technicolor print, with magnetic stereo sound. Otto Preminger's 1959 film version of the George Gershwin opera stars Dorothy Dandridge, Sidney Poitier, and Sammy Davis, Jr. The film will screen Saturday and Sunday, May 14 and 15, at 3:00 and 6:30 p.m. each day, with the Saturday 3:00 screening introduced by Donald Bogle, author of Dorothy Dandridge and Bright Boulevards, Bold Dreams: The Story of Black Hollywood.<BR<BR> It's a real one-of-a-kind experience, so we hope you will to attend. The film inaugurates the Museum's new monthly series, Black Light:Films from the African Diaspora, curated by Warrington Hudlin.
